A Banded Carnelian has more components of Agate in them while Carnelian has more Chalcedony features. Sometimes referred to as Red Agate, both Carnelian and Banded Carnelian belong to the Chalcedony family. Banded Carnelian turns darker in color, mostly brown to black.
